Semlor Lenten Buns

Wednesday, February 22, 2023 | 6:00 PM-8:30 PM

$159.00

Join Mary Storey for an enchanting evening making the Swedish delight Semlor Lenten Buns. Tied to the fasting tradition of Lent, semlor are cardamom-scented buns filled with almond-paste and whipped cream. Mary’s version includes a tart Raspberry Jam to offer a fruity foil to the rich, creamy filling, but you can serve yours with or without…you’ll still go home with a delicious jam for spreading on toast or dolloping on yogurt.

Originally they were only baked on Fettisdagen (Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras or, literally, Fat Tuesday), then it became common to bake them on Tuesdays in Lent. Such is the popularity of semlor that they are now widely available in Sweden from the official end of the Christmas season, which is on tjugondag Knut (January 13th), until Easter!

Best of all, you’ll get to sample your instructor’s delights while your masterpieces are baking! At the end of the class you’ll leave with your little bundles of yum to share with family and friends (or not…we won’t judge!)

This class is suitable for the following Dynamic Duo types:

YES: Parent/Grandparent & Child

YES: Couples/Roommates (live in the same household)

YES: Friends (you will share all equipment/ingredients for 1 recipe/batch…we let you rock, paper, scissors if the recipe doesn’t divide equally.) You will receive 1 set of piping tips and 1 texture comb, but your partner can purchase the same items at a discount during class if they like.

*What is a Dynamic Duo? It’s basically two buddies sharing the same workstation at no extra charge. You share all equipment and ingredients for a single batch of whatever we’re making that day. (Don’t worry, we won’t stick you with some random stranger- if you want to fly solo, you’ll have the station (and all the yummy food) all to yourself!)

We provide aprons, recipes, all ingredients, supplies, and tools required for use during each class. Best of all you get to take home whatever tasty treats you make - we provide all boxes/packaging.

Please wear comfortable shoes (stools will be provided) and have long hair tied back. For the comfort of all our students and staff, we ask that you refrain from wearing strong perfume or cologne. You may wish to bring a cardigan or sweater as the kitchen is kept at 68F.
