Suzy Fleming Leonard has been hooked on cooking since winning her first blue ribbon at the Allen Parish (La.) Fair for chocolate chip cookies.
Suzy’s role as food and dining editor at FLORIDA TODAY let her share that love of all things food through her writing, as well as by organizing popular events such as Flavor Dining Month and Suzy’s Secret Suppers, which were held periodically at local restaurants. Her job also let her slip behind the swinging door into the kitchens of some of Brevard’s best chefs, where they shared some of their secrets and recipes.
Since her retirement in February 2024, she has spent a lot of time in her own kitchen, honing baking and cooking skills to feed family and friends. She especially enjoys creating wedding and birthday cakes for people she loves.
Born in Alabama and raised in Louisiana, Suzy appreciates the flavors of the South stirred into dishes she learned from her mother, grandmother and aunts, as well as recipes shared by neighbors with names like Monceaux, Charpentier and Breaux.
